At SALT Apparel, our journey began long before our brand name existed. With years of experience in the fashion industry as a designer, pattern maker, and dressmaker, we worked with a wide range of established companies and private clients, developing a deep understanding of garment construction, precision fit, quality craftsmanship, and functional design.
Those years laid the foundation for everything SALT Apparel stands for today.
Our passion for fitness and movement inspired the next chapter of our story. After joining a local running club in Cape Town, we struggled to find activewear that offered the right balance of comfort, performance, support, and style. Instead of settling, we decided to create our own.
We designed custom running tights and breathable, moisture-wicking running shirts that reflected exactly how we believed activewear should look, feel, and perform.
It wasn’t long before fellow runners began asking where they could buy the apparel we were wearing. What started as a personal solution quickly grew into increasing demand from women looking for activewear that fitted well, felt comfortable, looked great, and, for many, also met modesty and religious requirements.
As demand continued to grow, we began manufacturing essential fitness apparel for women seeking flattering, functional, and comfortable clothing that simply wasn’t available in the market. Our mission became creating garments that inspire confidence and support women through every stage of their active lifestyle.
Then the world changed.
When COVID-19 arrived, many businesses, including several of our long-standing clients, were forced to close their doors. Yet during one of the most challenging periods in recent history, one thing continued to unite people: movement.
Whether running through quiet neighborhood streets or simply completing laps around their own gardens during lockdown, people discovered that fitness provided freedom, resilience, and hope.
This has become the turning point for our business.
Inspired by the strength and resilience of women during uncertain times, we officially launched SALT Apparel – a proudly South African brand committed to creating stylish, affordable, comfortable, and well-fitting activewear designed for everyday life.
Our garments were created to move effortlessly with our customers through workouts, workdays, errands, family life, and everything in between.
Today, SALT Apparel continues to stand for quality craftsmanship, confidence, movement, affordability, and timeless style.
Originally created by women, for women, our journey naturally expanded after the success of our Essential unisex collection. Demand quickly grew from both men and women across a wide range of ages, inspiring us to broaden our product offering while staying true to the values that shaped our brand.
As we continue to grow, we’ve taken the exciting step of expanding from social media into our own online store, making it easier than ever for customers across South Africa to experience SALT Apparel.
